A Serbian MP for the Socialist Party on Tuesday resigned from his parliamentary position after he was caught watching pornography during a debate on Kosovo.
A video filmed during the debate showed a distracted Zvonimir Stević. In the footage, he watched a series of pornographic clips while the president, Aleksandar Vučić, urged the Serbian parliament to normalize ties with Kosovo in order for Serbia to pursue EU membership.
The clip did not go down well with Stević’s bosses.
“This is a scandal and a disaster. Zvonko, it is realistic for you to resign. You can no longer remain a deputy, because you cannot deal with this,” Ivica Dačić, Serbian foreign minister and leader of the Socialist Party, told Stević in response to the clip.
“Wherever you appear, whatever you say, you will always be a porno MP,” Dačić added. Stević reportedly replied, “I am a party soldier, I will do what you ask” and resigned.
Stević, a veteran member of the Socialist Party, which is a junior member in Serbia’s ruling coalition, was the chair of the Serbian parliament’s “Committee for Kosovo.”
Stević spent more than a minute watching and browsing adult content on his phone. He was caught redhanded and a clip later circulated on Twitter, before national media picked up the story.
The ruling Serbian Progressive Party, the senior partner in the coalition, also lambasted Stević for watching the adult content during the debate, which also saw multiple parliamentarians physically clash.
Serbia and Kosovo have come under increased pressure from Western nations to hammer out an agreement that would see the two sides normalize ties, after tensions repeatedly inflamed during the latter half of 2022.
