Heavy rains affecting parts of the Philippines since December 25, 2022, caused severe floods in which at least 29 people lost their lives. At least 10 people were injured while 25 remain missing.

Severe weather affected a total of 407 224 people from 105 971 families in 757 barangays — the smallest administrative division in the Philippines, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report issued at 10:00 UTC (18:00 LT) on December 28, 2022.1

A total of 29 fatalities have been reported, 10 injured people and 25 missing.

The floods damaged a total of 3 291 houses in MIMAROPA, Region 6, Region 8, Region 9, Region 10, Region 11, CARAGA, and BARMM.

A total of 126 road sections and 13 bridges were affected, as well as 7 408 ha (18 305 acres) of crop area.

A low pressure area, centered some 260 km (160 miles) ENE of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 10:00 LT today, has a possibility to develop into a tropical depression, according to PAGASA.2

Hazards affecting land areas in the next 24 hours, the LPA will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Eastern Visayas. Moderate to at times heavy rains are expected over Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao region, Zamboanga Peninsula, the rest of Visayas, Bicol region, and Palawan.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property, PAGASA said.
