Asus revealed the ‘Chromebox 5’ at CES 2023. This is the successor to the brand’s Chromebox 4 released last year. The Chromebox 4 featured 10th-generation Intel Comet Lake processors, while the Chromebox 5 has been upgraded to the 12th-generation Intel Alder Lake chipset.
Aside from its processor, the Chromebox 5 is notable as it features a unique, compact design with rounded edges and minimal branding from Asus and Google. Additionally, the top plate on this mini PC acts as a wireless charging pad for other devices, such as phones, watches, and gaming devices. The pad delivers charging at a rate of 15 watts, which is a safe limit for most mobile devices.
The Chromebox 5 runs on ChromeOS, Google’s operating system most commonly used in Chromebooks and OEM laptops. This is an efficient OS with seamless support for Google services, many Android services, and streaming services.
