A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were found dead in Nottingham, England, in what police are calling a “major incident.”

In a statement, Nottinghamshire Police said officers had been called in just after 4 a.m. after two people were found dead in a street.

“Officers were then called to another incident in Milton Street where a van had attempted to run over three people,” the force said. “They are currently being treated in hospital. A man has also been found dead in Magdala Road.”

A 31-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Kate Meynell, the force’s chief constable said police believe “these three incidents are all linked” but that the investigation remains “at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak thanked the police and emergency services for their “ongoing response” to the incident.

“I am being kept updated on developments. The police must be given the time to undertake their work,” he said.

Nottingham’s three members of parliament — Nadia Whittome, Alex Norris and Lilian Greenwood — issued a joint statement saying the East Midlands city was “devastated by the deaths of three people this morning.”

“Nottingham is a beautiful city, home to brilliant people from all backgrounds,” they said. “We are shaken by today’s events but will meet them collectively as a community and heal together.”
