Former U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Belgium in March.

He will take the stage on March 17 near Antwerp for a moderated debate “An Evening with President Barack Obama” focusing on his vision of the future and the challenges the world is facing.

The debate is linked to the technology festival FTI SuperNova taking place in Antwerp a few days later, between March 21 and 22, gathering tech investors and entrepreneurs. The Obama event is taking place at the Studio 100 Pop-Up Theater in Puurs-Sint-Amands.

Obama’s visit will mean heightened security measures.

“He may no longer be a head of state, but even an ex-president is still highly secured,” the Mayor of Puurs-Sint-Amands Koen Van den Heuvel (CD&V) told De Morgen, adding that, “Obama will be only spending a few hours in Puurs.”

Obama was U.S. president between 2009 and 2017.
