Crystal Sports Bar opened earlier this summer, serving cheap drinks and Indian food

Downtown Vancouver has a new spot for watching sports.

Crystal Sports Bar has opened up on the Granville Strip in what was the long-time home of Johnnie Fox’s Irish Snug. Fox’s moved to Main Street, leaving 1033 Granville St open.

For a short time, Sips Bar and Restaurant, which also branded itself as an Irish Pub online, operated out of the space. This summer it became Crystal Sports Bar.

The new bar in the snug space offers cheap drinks ($3 shots and $5 beers), according to a sign out front, along with a mix of Indian dishes and pub fare, including chicken poutine, fish pakoras and tandoori paneer.

Inside appears the Irish pub style of previous tenants has been completely dropped for a flashier decor with several TVs for watching sports.

Previously Johnnie Fox’s had been in the space for more than 15 years before moving to 1601 Main St.
