The Ekiti Operations Office the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday 21st February 2023 flagged off the direct distribution of federal government relief assistance to persons affected by 2022 flood in Ekiti State.

In his opening speech, the Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed Habib, who was represented by the Head of Ekiti Operations Office, Mr. Kadiri Olanrewaju, commiserated with the government and people of Ekiti State over the unfortunate incident. He highlighted that due to erratic climate conditions it has become imperative to promote measures to enhance Disaster Risk Reduction peculiar to each community.

In his speech, the General Manager Ekiti SEMA, Sir Jide Borode, noted that the intervention of the federal government came handy to corroborate the effort of the State Government in bringing hope to the victims affected by flood in the State.

In her speech, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye, expressed her heartfelt sympathy to all the victims of the unfortunate incidence that destroyed property worth millions of  Naira. She stated that the materials are meant to cushion the effect of the disaster on victims

She on behalf of the State Government appreciated the Federal Government through NEMA and most importantly the DG NEMA for the relief materials being distributed to the beneficiaries. She encouraged all the residents of Ekiti State to always make sure to avoid and desist from actions that can trigger or excalate disasters in the State.

Thereafter, the official flag off was carried out before the direct distribution commenced.
