EU Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen will speak today, 10 January, at the Annual Conference of Spanish Ambassadors. As the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Ms Urpilainen oversees the European Commission’s work on international cooperation. Ahead of Spain’s upcoming EU Council Presidency, the Commissioner will exchange with the Ambassadors on Spain’s crucial role in Team Europe, a new model of coordination between the Commission, EU Member States and European development finance institutions aiming at accelerating sustainable development in partner countries and enhance Europe’s impact on the world stage.
The main topic of the Commissioner’s intervention will be Global Gateway, the EU’s new strategy to leverage sustainable, high-standard investments globally. The upcoming Presidency and the EU-LAC Summit will be pivotal for rolling out Global Gateway notably in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
While in Madrid, Commissioner Urpilainen will also have high-level engagements with Prime Minister, Mr Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, First Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister for Economy and Digitalisation, Ms Nadia Calviño Santamaría, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Mr José Manuel Albares. She will also meet representatives of the private sector to discuss opportunities offered by Global Gateway.
