“I still deny the accusations of violence that have been made against me and circulated,” he said, stressing that no complaint had been filed by either side.
In a separate statement, Laurence Bertrand Dorléac, head of the National Foundation of Political Science (FNSP) which handles Sciences Po’s administrative and financial strategy, announced that a “provisional administration will be appointed in the next few days.” An ad hoc committee will be setup within six months to lead the replacement process. The formal choice of a new leadership will need to be confirmed by a decree signed by French president Emmanuel Macron.
Vicherat had stepped down from his role in December after the accusations were made public, before returning to his position in January, despite opposition from part of the student body. Police had detained Vicherat and his partner, Anissa Bonnefont, in December after they accused each other of domestic abuse. In late January, Vicherat was forced to step back from any internal procedures relating to gendered and sexual acts of violence.
Vicherat was elected at the head of Sciences Po after his predecessor, Fréderic Mion, was forced to resign after it emerged he had known for years about incest allegations against Olivier Duhamel, then-head of the FNSP.
