How do universities and colleges decide who to admit? Given the earnings advantage of a post-secondary degree both globally and in Canada, this is an important social mobility question. While the answer varies from one institution to the next, most focus on education criteria like exam scores and grades. However, Canada’s new intake cap on study permit applications puts increased pressure on Canadian institutions to also consider immigration criteria when admitting international undergraduate students. Message to Macron Schmit, who holds the commission’s jobs and social rights portfolio, also criticized von der Leyen’s party, the EPP, which is set to come first in the election. In our survey fielded from March 3 to April 4, 2024 – prior to the Biden administration’s statement about halting the shipment of some arms to Israel – Israelis offer somewhat mixed reviews of President Joe Biden and his actions during the conflict. However, this optimism does not extend to the prospect of peaceful coexistence alongside a Palestinian state, which Israelis now see as less likely than they did in recent years. A plurality of Israelis also think that Israel should govern…

When a star is born or dies, or when any other very energetic phenomenon occurs in the universe, it emits X-rays, which are high-energy light particles that aren’t visible to the naked eye. These X-rays are the same kind that doctors use to take pictures of broken bones inside the body. But instead of looking at the shadows produced by the bones stopping X-rays inside of a person, astronomers detect X-rays flying through space to get images of events such as black holes and supernovae. Images and spectra – charts showing the distribution of light across different wavelengths from an…
