The crisis in Haiti has affected the lives of Haitians for far too long. Schools are closed, hospitals have run out of supplies and access to food is severely limited. The mission remains vital to supporting Haitian efforts to resolve instability. The UK has pledged over $6 million dollars to support it. The appointment…

Though all six soldiers had been buried at the times of their deaths, their names had been lost. Their graves were only identified recently after researchers submitted cases to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s (CWGC).  Further research by the MOD’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre (JCCC), also known as the ‘MOD War Detectives’, the CWGC, and the National Army Museum, used sources such as war diaries, service records, grave registration reports and other documents. Following this, the original findings were confirmed allowing each soldier to be commemorated by name.  The grave rededication services were organised by JCCC, and saw named…

Thank you, Special Rapporteur, for your typically eloquent update.  Four years on from the military coup that thwarted their democratic aspirations, it’s the people of Myanmar who continue to suffer from the deepening humanitarian and human rights crisis: airstrikes, village burnings, increasing use of land mines, forced recruitment. In Rakhine, the scene of recent horrors in Buthidaung and Byain Phyu, intercommunal tensions are being deliberately stoked to divide communities. All parties to the conflict must prioritise the protection of civilians and allow unimpeded humanitarian access.  The UK has provided more than £150 million in life-saving assistance to the people of…

Women’s Football in Africa, the first in-depth book on the subject, traces the history of women’s soccer from initially being banned through to today’s growing numbers of fans and broadcasting potential. It’s a story of triumph despite enormous barriers – among them sexism, abuse, homophobia and religion. We asked its author, sports communication professor Chuka Onwumechili, just three questions.
