The Abia State Government has threatened to seal any commercial banks in the state that failed to comply with a court order vacating the freezing of its accounts.
The Dr Okezie Ikpeazu-led government made the threat via a statement signed by the secretary to the state government, Chris Ezem in Umuahia, the state capital.
The threat comes against the backdrop of an Abuja Federal High Court t last week that granted ex parte order freezing the state’s accounts thought the government claimed the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.
According to the statement, “Government, therefore, directs all commercial banks that have transactions with it to resume normal transactions without further delay.”
It further said “All those mischief makers who are bent on stalling smooth and peaceful transition through unnecessary litigations to stop forthwith”.
The government said it considered the legal action as unpatriotic and mischievous activities of some people who are bent on undermining its laudable legacies and achievements.
It added that the outgoing government had invested so much on peace and security and would not be drawn into unfortunate plan to foist anarchy on the citizens.
