Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the Netherlands late Wednesday, after a brief visit to Finland.
The Ukrainian leader is expected to meet with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra and Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren on Thursday, according to a Dutch official who was not authorized to speak on the record due to security issues.
Zelenskyy will deliver a speech titled “there is no peace without justice” and visit the International Criminal Court, which issued an arrest warrant in March for Russian President Vladimir Putin over the forced transfer of children to Russia after the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo is expected to travel to The Hague for a joint meeting with Rutte and Zelenskyy on Thursday.
Zelenskyy did not leave his country for the first 10 months after Russia launched its full-scale war in February 2022. But in December 2022, Zelenskyy traveled to the U.S. in a bid to drum up financial and military support, and he has since visited several Western European capitals and Poland. On Wednesday, Zelenskyy traveled to Helsinki for a summit with Nordic leaders.
Thursday’s visit to the Netherlands will be Zelenskyy’s first to the country since he was elected president.
Zelenskyy is expected to travel to Berlin on May 13.
