Norwegian design studio Snøhetta unveils a look at the design of the new Airside skyscraper which opened at the old Kai Tak Airport located in Hong Kong. It is designed with inspiration drawn from textiles and tailoring with a structural form of five glazed buildings that are interconnected in a unique stepped arrangement.
The lowest side starts by the Kai Tak River and rises from there. Partner of the studio Robert Greenwood notes, “The building negotiates scales ranging from the urban to the human. It shapes a meaningful, inviting, and vibrant public realm for the thousands of people that will pass through it each day while bringing a new icon to the skyline and a focal point for the district.”
