Lidl GB, a leading supermarket chain, has recently announced a significant sustainability initiative by incorporating Prevented Ocean Plastic into its water bottles. Starting in July, Lidl’s one-liter ‘San Celestino Italian Sparkling Mineral Water’ bottles will contain a minimum of 30% Prevented Ocean Plastic, representing a tangible step towards mitigating plastic pollution.

The company hopes that with this project, it will be able “to save almost 100 tonnes of plastic from entering our oceans per year.” Prevented Ocean Plastic packaging, developed in collaboration with Bantam Materials, is sourced and processed from discarded water bottles discovered within a 30-mile radius of coastlines or major waterways in Southeast Asia. The waste is collected, sorted, and processed, before it is turned into packaging.
