San Francisco-based designer Michael Hilal is debuting a state-honoring furniture collection called ‘Big Sur.’ The furniture collection pays tribute to his home state of California, but the designs draw inspiration from San Francisco’s topography, filled with different shorelines and summits.

The furniture collection consists of five pieces: two sofas, two stools, and a bar. The designs are meant to avoid the concept of formality, which is a component that Michael Hilal believes in. A standout furniture piece is a monolithic-looking sofa with plush texture material and a long rectangular lower body with short cushions that stretch throughout the whole sofa on the backrest. The furniture collection will launch on April 6 at St Vincents gallery in Antwerp, Belgium.
