Silvio Berlusconi, Italy’s former prime minister, was taken into intensive care in a hospital cardiac unit Wednesday, after suffering from “breathlessness.”
It comes after the 86 year old was discharged just days ago on March 30 from Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital following checks likely related to heart issues. He was initially hospitalized on March 27.
Berlusconi, who is the leader of Forza Italia, a coalition party in Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing government, is said to be “stable,” according to local media reports.
“Silvio Berlusconi speaks and has been hospitalized because the previous problem had not been solved,” Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Wednesday on the sidelines of a NATO meeting, adding that he had not been able to hear directly from Berlusconi as he was busy with other meetings and without a phone.
During the pandemic, Berlusconi suffered serious complications after a bout of COVID-19, which he described as “the worst experience” of his life.
