As things stand, Manchester United is the only Premier League club to have a weekly wage bill greater than £4m. According to the latest data from the football data website FbRef, Eric Ten Hag’s side is currently carrying a wage bill of £4.03m.
Neighbours Manchester City are second on the list with a weekly wage bill of £3.87m. City are coming on the back of a treble-winning season, but they have allowed some of their senior players to leave this window.
Arsenal have been quite busy in the window, and they are the next name on the list. The North London club currently have a weekly wage bill of £3.45m. Chelsea have managed to reduce their wage bill by letting go of their senior players and signing youngsters in the last few windows. Currently, Chelsea have a wage bill of £3.05m, which is considerably lower than the top teams.
Liverpool are also undergoing a transition and have allowed a number of their players to leave in the summer. The Merseysiders are expected to sign more names this summer, but their current weekly wage bill is just £2.78m – considerably lower than Manchester clubs.
United’s Wage Bill 36 Times Greater Than Luton Town’s
Promoted clubs usually pale when compared to Premier League’s established clubs when it comes to wages. Understandably, the three promoted clubs have the lowest wage bills this year too.
However, Luton Town, despite being a promoted side, stands out for their modest wage bill of £0.112 million. When compared, this sum makes only 1/36th portion of Man United’s wage bill.
Sheffield United are doing marginally better with a wage bill of £0.272m. Burnley have the biggest wage bill amongst the promoted sides. The Clarets, who won the Championship last season, currently operate on a wage bill of £0.441m per week.
Brentford is arguably the most impressive name on the list considering the club finished 9th in the league last season. The London club currently have a £0.660m weekly wage bill – 17th highest in the league. Bournemouth are next with a £0.834m weekly wage bill. The Cherries were favourites to go down last season but eventually finished 15th.
