Emirates launches its annual Oktoberfest celebration – World News Intel

Emirates has announced its plans to once again mark the German festival of Oktoberfest with a special onboard offering in the coming weeks. From September 16th to October 3rd, the UAE flag carrier’s flights to and from Germany will feature traditional cuisine, with airport lounges also getting a special menu.

Operating out of its hub at Dubai International Airport (DXB), Emirates is currently flying three times a day to Frankfurt (FRA), and twice a day to Düsseldorf (DUS), Hamburg (HAM), and Munich (MUC). For the next few weeks, these services will feature special lunch and dinner menus across all classes of travel.

For economy class passengers, who will be served the special menu on outbound flights, with the main component being roasted chicken with paprika, served with a delicious jus, potato wedges and braised red cabbage.” This will be followed up by an apple cake for dessert, served with almonds and vanilla sauce.

Meanwhile, business and first class passengers have a more extensive offering at their disposal. This features, as Emirates explains, appetizers of Obatzda, Emmental and cream cheese with radishes, hard-boiled egg and cornichons, followed by main courses of slow cooked veal cheeks (…) or a succulent minced beef steak.” Desserts in business and first class are apple cake and strudel respectively.

Emirates’ vibrant Oktoberfest celebrations will also extend to its lounges. In terms of the onboard lounges that can be found on its Airbus A380s, these areas will have bite-size sandwiches available with a variety of traditional fillings, as well as, of course, salted and buttered pretzels. For those with a sweet tooth, the onboard lounges will also feature a selection of traditional pastries.

Meanwhile, on the ground, Emirates’ airport lounges in Düsseldorf and Munich are also set to join the party. Here, Emirates plans to serve traditional delicacies such as Käsepätzle (cheesy egg noodles) and Obazda (a Bavarian cheese spread), alongside the likes of potato salad and chicken thighs, both topped with parsley.

Emirates is also using Oktoberfest as an opportunity to showcase its wide range of German onboard entertainment. The carrier has 45 German-language films loaded into its inflight entertainment systems, alongside another 300 Hollywood movies with German dubbing. Musically speaking, Emirates’ audio-based entertainment library features 28 German playlists and albums.

Emirates isn’t the only major airline altering its offering in line with Oktoberfest. Indeed, German flag carrier Lufthansa has also got in on the act, with a handful of extra flights to cater for tourism connected to the festival. As Simple Flying reported back in July, these 11 additional rotations will depart from London Stansted Airport (STN), serving Munich between September 15th and October 1st.
