Dutch prosecutors have seized a plot of land in an Amsterdam suburb that belongs to a businessman who used to be married to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s daughter, according to media reports.
The 1,432 sqm plot, located in Duivendrecht, about 6km south of Amsterdam city center, was seized on May 12 by the national public prosecutor’s office for financial, economic and environmental offenses, which is responsible for enforcing sanctions, according to a joint investigation by the Guardian and two other outlets released late Thursday.
The plot of land is currently empty and is owned by Jorrit Faassen, a Dutch businessman who used to be married to Maria Vorontsova, Putin’s eldest daughter. The couple are reportedly separated.
Both of Putin’s adult daughters were placed under EU and U.S. sanctions in April 2022, shortly after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Dutch prosecutors declined to comment on the reason for the seizure or whether Faassen, who lives in Russia, was being investigated in the Netherlands, the Guardian reported.
