Holcim by Dezeen presents a video production that highlights Norman Foster’s Essential Homes Research Project. It unveils a new housing prototype that is made for displaced people that was unveiled during the Venice Architecture Biennale. The concept is made to provide housing in a sustainable way for people displaced by manmade or displaced disasters. It is a response for those who often end up living in temporary spaces for over a decade.
Foster speaks about this in an interview with Dezeen, stating “Disasters lead to the need for instant accommodation and camps – mostly tented – offering scant protection from the elements. What if there would be something that would be more permanent, more durable, offering greater protection from the elements, but which could be realized very quickly?”
