Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union, Mairead McGuinness, will be in the United States on an official visit from 11 to 14 April.

On Wednesday 12 April, Commissioner McGuinness will meet Ronald O’Hanley, President and CEO of State Street, to discuss regulatory developments. She will then visit Harvard University where, amongst other meetings, she will give an addressd on the future of finance and have an exchange with students.

On Wednesday 13 April, the Commissioner will participate in a sanctions roundtable with Wally Adeyemo, US Deputy Treasury Secretary, and Lindsey Whyte, Director General of the UK Treasury, together with CEOs of banks, to discuss how to best cooperate against sanction circumvention. She will also meet Gary Gensler, Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to discuss digital finance, securities regulation and current market developments. On the same day, Commissioner McGuinness will meet the Climate Data Steering Committee to discuss sustainable finance, as well as Pablo Saavedra, the World Bank’s Vice-President for the Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions (EFI) Global Practice. Shewill also meet CEOs of US trade associations organised by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

On Friday 14 April, Commissioner McGuinness will meet with Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) on sustainable finance policies. Commissioners McGuinness and Gentiloni will then meet Janet Yellen, US Treasury Secretary, on sanctions implementation, banking regulation and supervision, digital and sustainable finance. Later in the day, she will participate in a financial regulatory roundtable hosted by Secretary Yellen, which will gather high-level officials from the International Monetary Fund, US, Japan and the EU. The roundtable will focus on financial stability and digital asset regulation. Commissioner McGuinness will also meet Rohit Chopra, Director of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, on financial inclusion, digital and sustainable finance and banking regulation, as well as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, Jerome Powell.
