Teenage Engineering works in collaboration with Love Hultén to design the new CHD-4 turntable that is meant to bring awareness to congenital heart defects, as referenced in its namesake. Oskar Hellqvist aims to bring attention to the condition as both of his sons were born with CHD, which can affect an infant’s heart development.

He taps the help of artist and woodworker Love Hultén to build a special machine that aims to alter the disease into “something new and beautiful.” The result appears to be a turntable but it is complete with the sound recordings engraved in a spiraling design. There are four concentric rings in the machine that is able to read the special notes. Additionally, the four rings reveal the heartbeat pattern captured by an electrocardiogram of one of four children who suffer from the condition.
