A Baltimore BP gas station where a man was killed last week remained open for business amid calls from the community to shut it down.

Al Stevenson, 56, was inside the gas station on Havenwood Road at the Northwood Commons Shopping Center on Dec. 11 when someone fatally shot him through a window. Another man was injured in the gunfire.

The owner of the gas station spoke with Gary Collins about the crime, the relatives of the victim wanting the gas station closed and cooperation with police.

“We’re in the business of selling gasoline, and sodas, chips and cigarettes,” owner Khan said. “We’re not in the business of police. We don’t have any policing powers. We can’t detain or apprehend criminals. I do want to say that there are police officers who have gone over and beyond to try and help us.”

A gas station in west Baltimore in 2018 was forced to close due to crime-related issues. It has since reopened.
