el origen is a food startup from Hamburg that’s on a mission to make products that taste good and do good with products that are certified organic, vegan, free from palm oil and part of a transparent and fair value chain. In the category of snacks, confectionery and ice cream products, the German snack brand inspired by Latin American ingredients received a PETA Vegan Food Award for its organic salted plantain chips.
These three-ingredient snacks made in Ecuador not only share an authentic taste of Latin America, they also help to support small farmers in the region who are dedicated to the cultivation of organic plantains. Although plantains are a staple food in Latin American and South African countries, plantains are relatively new to European consumers and el origen is introducing this market to varieties that are simply seasoned with sea salt or paprika.
