Applications open on September 16 for the Future Leaders Scheme – which gives up-and-coming civil servants the chance to fast-track their development into senior leadership roles.
The 12-month programme is open to high-performing individuals who are currently Grade 7 or Grade 6 civil servants and is designed to give them the skills and experience they need to take on positions at the very highest levels.
Growing as a leader
Scheme alumnus Vimbai Chinhoyi, pictured, head of portfolio management at DEFRA said:
The scheme helped me embrace ownership of my own career, grow and learn as a leader and recognise how I can play a part in shaping a future in which people have the opportunity to thrive and excel.
For the first time, applicants to the scheme will be asked to sit an online psychometric test rather than provide a personal statement. This new approach provides a more objective assessment of candidates’ potential, ensuring that a diverse range of talent is identified and supported.
Building talent
Those interested in the scheme should discuss it with their line manager and check they are willing to support their application.
Jo Hollis, deputy director for the Leadership College for Government, the part of Government Skills which runs the scheme said:
The programme is not only a pathway to personal growth but also a strategic initiative to build leadership capacity across the civil service.
