Spotify is launching a new AI-powered feature called ‘DJ,’ which works to personalize the music listening experience for all users. With its “stunningly realistic voice,” Spotify’s DJ function will provide a tailored playlist of music coupled with spoken commentary powered by AI about the songs and artists the user enjoys. This gives Spotify leverage over other streaming platforms, as it allows more passive users to experience how technology can control their music session. The feature, which is powered using Open AI, is in beta testing.
To extend the ‘DJs’ knowledge of music, artists, and genres, Spotify shared OpenAI’s Generative AI technology with its team of music editors, experts, scriptwriters, and data curators to ensure “culturally relevant, accurate pieces of commentary [are] at scale.”
