We have been informed of fraud attempts involving emails falsely claiming to come from DG FISMA (the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union of the European Commission), including messages impersonating senior staff.
Scammers may misuse the European Commission or DG FISMA name, logo, or identities of Commission officials. They often promise payments, compensation or fund recovery in exchange for fees or personal and financial information. These messages may appear highly credible, but they are fraudulent.
DG FISMA, including its management, never contacts citizens to request or offer money.
If you receive such a message, do not reply or take any action. You may report it to your national authorities.
All genuine European Commission email addresses end with @ec.europa.eu.
Be careful. Fraud does not only happen to others.
