Bay Area-based design studio David Baker Architects finishes 145 units of social housing with the foundation of modular construction along with a weathering steel facade right in San Francisco. The Tahanan project is named after the Tagalog word that translates to “Coming Home” and it was recently completed last month with the goal of accelerating housing for the homeless.
Principal at David Baker Architects Daniel Simons states that “This is a particularly meaningful project for our team, because it provides homes to formerly unhoused people, along with the services they need to thrive.” The studio continues, “The site is in the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural District, established to preserve the cultural diversity of the area by highlighting the culture and contributions of the Filipino American community.”
