Haarlem, a charming port city in North Holland, just west of Amsterdam, is one of my favorite cities in the Netherlands.

Despite being ripe for a day trip from Amsterdam (where I live), only half an hour away, I’ve spent a couple of weekends here to properly soak in the city without having to go to and fro between home and Haarlem. If you are planning to visit Haarlem, you’ll be pleased to know that the hotels here are not likely to disappoint!

Many offer modern and even world-class amenities, top service, delectable cuisine, and outstanding access to the city center. But above all, what these absolutely lovely accommodations offer, most importantly, is comfortable rooms for a comfortable stay.

It is easy to find hotels in Haarlem that offer easy access to the city and nightlife, but some locations stand out. One of them is Hotel ML.

The convenient location of this hotel makes it a fantastic choice for those who plan to see the city. Very close to a bus stop and some fab restaurants, the property offers concierge services, allergy-free rooms, and free Wi-Fi throughout the building.

In the rooms, guests will find full air conditioning, an in-room coffee machine, and a private, spacious bathroom. It also has a 24-hour front desk for any questions.

Guests share that this hotel is very spacious and beautifully decorated throughout, though they love the onsite restaurant and just how close Hotel ML is to the area’s best amenities. There are restaurants within walking distance, including Stempels, La Plume, and Cafe Koops. Quite the stunning hotel in the heart of the historic center of the city, Hotel Lion D’Or, is a short distance from Market Square and St. Bavo Church, and many more. This hotel offers larger hotel rooms, air conditioning, and excellent furnishings that are both elegant and modern.

Each room features a Nespresso coffee machine for long mornings looking out over the square with some joe. For those who want a proper breakfast, there is a breakfast buffet served each morning. There is also a bar in the hotel with drinks, coffee, and tea available throughout the day.

For history buffs and culture vultures, Hotel Lion D’Or is near places like the Frans Hals Museum and the Teylers Museum. Even better, it is very close to some of the best artisan and antique shops in the area, so pick up a few souvenirs and drop them back off at the hotel!

Guests at Hotel Lion D’Or share that the rooms are beautiful and that the staff is helpful and very welcoming to international travelers. They also note that breakfast was a great way to start the day.

The hotel is also within a short few minutes walk to the Harlem Railway Station, which provides direct access to Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Central Station. The Niu Dairy is an upscale hotel just minutes from key attractions and great dining. It’s also pretty convenient if you desire access to Amsterdam, and a perfect spot if you’re planning a day at the beach.

Guests can enjoy a vegetarian breakfast each morning (it’s surprisingly good), and there is a snack bar for drinks in the evening. For those visiting for work, the location has a large business center and very helpful staff who speak English and Dutch, available 24 hours at the front desk. Rooms are soundproof, so you can sleep in after a long night!

The Zandvoort Beach is less than 4 miles from the hotel, making for a quick drive for those who want to enjoy the water. Restaurants that are nearby include De Witte Zwaan, PokeLohaBowl, and Uiltje Bar.

The only real drawback to this location is that it does not have its own private parking, so those renting a car may find parking a bit more expensive when choosing to stay here. That said, I really enjoyed my stay here.

The Carlton Square Hotel has a lot to offer guests who are looking for a more international design. This luxury hotel has ample amenities and top-notch hospitality.

It is easy to see the elegance here from the spacious rooms, well-appointed amenities, and more modern décor. All of the rooms here have air conditioning, in-room tea service, and a minibar (though there’s an extra charge for that).

The location also has Bar & Kitchen Zocher here, which provides a daily fresh breakfast with a changing menu. The breakfast options are numerous, and the dinner I had here was top-tier. But if you feel like eating elsewhere, there are some great restaurants nearby, like Parck and Sushi Point.

Customers appreciate the breakfast here since it is so extensive with an international blend of flavors. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms are large, clean, and quiet. Annoyingly, they do not have bike parking or a pool onsite, but the beach is just a few minutes drive away.

5. Van der Valk Hotel Haarlem

There are a few things that really help Van der Valk Hotel Haarlem stand out from other hotels in Haarlem. First, the beds are longer, which is ideal for taller people or those who need more room. It’s also right off the city center, meaning restaurants and shops are just around the corner.

The hotel also features Restaurant Martinus onsite. This is a modern in-house eatery that offers mouthwatering international cuisine and a Sunday brunch that many people recommend, though you do need a reservation for it because of how popular it is.

This hotel has spa facilities, too, including a sauna and a steam room. The property offers a fitness center, business center, bar, and a larger family room area for mingling in the lobby.

Getting around is easy, especially to destinations within walking distance, like the Grote Markt and Frans Hals Museum, both of which are just about 10 minutes away from the hotel itself. There’s also free parking, which is somewhat rare in Haarlem.

The staff is fantastic, and the balcony views are a great feature in the evening. The only drawback is that breakfast is often packed and a bit rowdy. However, there are restaurants that are nearby, including Friet van Piet, Het Belastingparadijs, and Eet Cafe.

Amrâth Grand Hotel Frans Hals has some fantastic features, including full concierge services to help you book all of the things you want to do throughout the city. You can rent a bike from the hotel, relax in the lounge room, and use the meeting facilities. There is a hot tub onsite, too.

As for breakfast, it’s included each morning for guests in their room should they desire, but it is a simple fruit-based breakfast rather than a Full English. There are some pretty good restaurants nearby, including Cafe Koops, La Plume, and De Blauwe Druif.

For a backpacking trip, a college summer trip, or just a quick getaway, the Stayokay Hostel Haarlem is a solid option. It is located just on the outskirts of the city, about a 20-minute walk to the beach from Bloemendaal aan Zee.

This hostel does a great job with extras. There’s free parking onsite and free Wi-Fi as well. A generous breakfast is also included in your stay here, and they’ll pack you a lunch for a small fee. You can’t say that about some hotels in Haarlem.

There’s also a large terrace area that overlooks the waterfront, and you can enjoy coffee from the Shuffle, the onsite coffee shop. It’s also easy enough to bike to The Dunes for those looking for some adventure.

The Ambassador City Centre Hotel is in the heart of Haarlem, just across the street from St. Bavo Church. This is a beautiful hotel with a quintessentially Dutch feel to it that is all its own. With modern amenities juxtaposing wooden beams exposed throughout and gorgeous vistas, it is an excellent choice for those who want to be in the heart of it all.

The hotel is also just a few meters from the Teylers Museum. Nearby there are also restaurants like, Cafe Colette, Table 24, and Thrill Grill.

The rooms are a little larger and quieter, making this a great hotel if you’re bringing the family. Stepping inside, the hotel lobby, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, is stunning. Consider upgrading to the honeymoon suite for a special view.

10. Amadeus Hotel

Simple and unassuming, this last hotel is a welcoming, affordable place to stay in the heart of a beautiful city.

Amadeus Hotel is utterly charming and very much a traditional Dutch hotel. It’s in a historic building with a brick façade and an underwhelming exterior. Yet, inside, it is a truly beautiful space and well-appointed throughout.

This hotel offers some super features, including a large terrace and lounge for relaxing and an internet café if you have to do some work. They also serve a good breakfast, and the staff are noted as being extremely helpful.

Located right on Grote Markt, it’s easy to get around the city when staying here. It’s close to the Centrum bus stop and about a five-minute walk to multiple attractions, including the Teyler’s Museum. If you’re peckish, restaurants like Square, L’Anders, and XO are nearby.

Customers love the location itself, but there is a lot of noise from the streets.
