An amalgamation of various youth groups, Wazobia Youth Volunteers, believes residents of Lagos State are impressed by the sterling performance of the state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the last four years and will massively vote for his re-election in the governorship poll scheduled to hold on March 11, 2023.
The group said Sanwo-Olu’s first term is defined by remarkable economic growth, infrastructural development, and financial prosperity.
The group’s Director of Public Affairs, Success Nworgwu, said in a press statement that Sanwo-Olu’s strategic solutions to traffic gridlock, the success in tackling the deadly coronavirus and key interventions in various sectors in the state, have endeared him to the residents.
“We have witnessed Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the Lagos master plan with the construction of red and blue rail lines; Lagosians have seen how he has revamped the water transport. They can’t forget how he led a formidable and efficient team of professionals that effectively combat and manage the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19; even the federal government admitted that the country’s triumph over the deadly disease was hinged on the excellent performance of the Lagos State government.
“Lagosians are also aware of Sanwo-Olu’s giant stride in road construction; he has constructed and repaired more than 308 roads across the state and his signature performance is also visible in the education sector. The recent commissioning of Imota Rice Mills is the signpost of his performance in the agricultural sector; about 250,000 youths would be engaged at the facilities; this is massive creation of job opportunities for our youths and it is unprecedented,” he said.
Nworgwu condemned the tribal dimension some elements are attempting to add to the campaign ahead of next Saturday’s polls in Lagos, saying Sanwo-Olu had intensely demonstrated his capacity as one of the most detribalized leaders in Nigeria and should be supported by everyone regardless of their tribe and religion.
He said the group has thrown its weight behind the governor because of his various youth-friendly endeavors. He added that Sanwo-Olu’s government is youth-focused as many younger elements are given key positions in his government.
Nworgwu noted, “Sanwo-Olu is certainly the best bet for the youths in this election. He is the governor who has accommodated the youth the most in his government, given the opportunities he has offered to us. He is the Governor that has a good number of millennials in his cabinet including the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, and the Special Adviser on Innovation and Technology, Tubosun Alake.
“He also showed that he is detribalized by having non-Yorubas in his cabinet including Mr. Sam Egube who is the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget and Architect Kabiru Ahmed Abdullahi, the Commissioner of Waterfront Infrastructure.
“With due respect to other contestants, none of them can rival Sanwo-Olu in terms of experience and exposure. Lagos is the fifth largest economy in Africa and shouldn’t be handed over to inexperienced leaders. Sanwo-Olu rose from being Special Adviser to the position of a commissioner before he became the Governor. Lagos has witnessed the desired growth under his charge and that trajectory shouldn’t be truncated at this critical period.
“Moreso, this is the first time we have somebody from Lagos State becoming the President of Nigeria and it is undesirable to hand the affairs of the state to the opposition party. We, therefore, enjoin all Lagosians to come out and vote for Sanwo-Olu on Saturday.”
