Which areas of the United States have the best cell phone coverage and the fastest mobile speeds? To answer this question, the research team at Voice Nation used a mobile network index to score the 100 most populous cities across the United States, specifically on four factors, to determine which areas had the best and worst speeds and service.
According to the research that was conducted by the team at Voice Nation, it was found that Jersey City, New Jersey is the city with the best mobile network speed and coverage in the United States.
Other cities in the top ten, per their research, include Tampa FL, New York NY, Baltimore MD, Washington DC, Boston MA, Chicago IL, Atlanta GA, Pittsburgh PA, and Milwaukee WI. Topping the list, Jersey City, New Jersey has an average download speed of 107.2 Mbps, as well as an average latency of 28 ms and an average upload speed of 22.5 Mbps.
Collectively, this all allows Jersey City, New Jersey to claim the top spot for having the best mobile network speed and coverage in the United States.
In terms of the cities with the worst mobile network speed and coverage, it was found that the dubious honor of having the worst goes to Anchorage, Alaska. In Anchorage, the average download speed is just 55.1 Mbps, the average latency is 54 ms, and the average upload speed is just 10.6 Mbps, all collectively much less than in a place like Jersey City, New Jersey.
Other cities that were ranked as having exceptionally poor mobile network speeds and coverage include Reno NV, Lubbock TX, Chesapeake VA, Albuquerque NM, Fresno CA, Baton Rouge LA, Lincoln NE, Lexington KY, and Toledo OH.
Across the United States, it was also found from Voice Nation’s research that the fast mobile provider in all but five of the 100 most populous cities across the country was T-Mobile.
