Nigeria’s senior female football team, the Super Falcons, played out a draw with Republic of Ireland in the last game of the group stages of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, thus advancing to the Round of 16 of the tournament.
The feat expectedly elicited joy across the country.
Such excitement was further buoyed when Nigerian Photojournalist, Pooja, shared a photo via his Twitter account titled, “fufu ways”, which showed members of the team with plates of fufu, a Nigerian staple associated with strength and energy.
There were subsequent reactions from their fans and social media users, some of who applauded the image as a reflection of the country’s strong cultural heritage.
The country will now face England next week Monday in the knout out stage of the tournament.
