Raging floods swept through Kumluca and Finike districts of Turkey’s Antalya Province on December 12, 2022.
According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service, Finike recorded 253.8 mm (9.99 inches) of rain in 24 hours to December 12 while the district of Kumluca recorded 207.8 mm (8.18 inches).
The rain caused several streams in two districts to overflow, resulting in floods that swept away vehicles, damaged buildings, and destroyed a bridge in Kumluca, causing transport problems near Ortaköy and Toptaş villages.1
Authorities said a road connecting Kumluca to Finike was partially flooded. In Finike, floodwaters wreaked havoc in four neighborhoods while authorities evacuated locals stranded in their residences.2
112 Emergency said they received 440 calls for assistance.
On December 13, the provincial government reported flooding caused damage to 497 vehicles, around 100 houses, 920 commercial premises or workplaces, and over 1 200 hectares (2 965 acres) of crops and farmland.
No fatalities were reported.
