On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Italy as you celebrate the 78th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic on June 2, 1946.
The United States and Italy are unshakable allies, strategic partners, and close friends. Our long relationship is based on shared transatlantic values and our goals of a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic world. We are grateful for Italy’s leadership during its presidency of the G7 this year, as well as its partnership addressing the most important global challenges, including its support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s continued brutal and unjustified aggression. As a NATO Ally, Italy continues to have a vital role in fostering security and stability in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
Millions of Americans claim Italian heritage, a tie that binds our nations even closer together. Today, as we honor Italy’s Republic Day, our nations are closer than ever, and we reaffirm our commitment to our shared values and common future.
Happy Republic Day!
