BRUSSELS — European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Washington on Friday next week to meet U.S President Joe Biden for talks on the Inflation Reduction Act and broader security issues, according to a senior EU official.
Europe and the United States have been at odds for months over Washington’s landmark green subsidies plan, which Brussels fears will drain the continent of investment and green technology.
The U.S. is also seeking to stiffen the spines of European leaders against China, amid increasing fears Beijing is poised to send weapons to Russia’s invading forces in Ukraine.
Von der Leyen will travel to Canada to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the early part of the week and then carry on to Washington.
