Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, has been elected the pioneer chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.
His election took place on the sidelines of the 30th edition of Investing in Africa Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa.
Alake broke th news via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.
He said: “I am pleased to share that Nigeria broke new grounds in the global mining industry on Monday, as I was unanimously elected the pioneer chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.
During the signing of the resolution at the 30th edition of Investing in Africa Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, I emphasized the need for African leaders to unite and maximize the benefits from the continent’s mineral resources.
“I stressed the importance of speaking with one voice on value addition in the mining sector and emphasized the need to ensure that Africa’s mineral resources are utilized effectively.
“This initiative follows the rallying of African Ministers of Solid Minerals/Mineral Resources on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Nigeria and Uganda championed the importance of value addition in the mining sector to boost African economies.”
