Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, on Monday unveiled a strategic blueprint designed to launch Nigeria into the digital age.
The blueprint, which still requires input from concerned stakeholders, is in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tijani said.
His words: “In the spirit of progress and innovation, I am pleased to share this strategic blueprint for the Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy. This document is a critical
launchpad in our journey towards a Nigeria that thrives in the digital age in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“We made a commitment to share this document with you all in our spirit of openness and co-creation. Our blueprint has been carefully crafted based on extensive engagement with stakeholders from our ministry – departments, units and parastatals, ecosystem stakeholders and my immediate team. It is designed as a living document outlining our high level focus areas, as we firm up plans to operationalise the goals shared in the document.”
Tijani noted that digital transformation and innovation is fast becoming a catalyst for economic progress, and Nigeria is at a critical moment as a nation in the journey towards a more inclusive and prosperous future.
“The intersection of a strong digital economy and our innovative and youthful population presents us with a unique opportunity to chart a course towards prosperity, inclusion and global relevance.”
In the area of trade, the blueprint said the goals is to position Nigeria as a major player in the African and global technology ecosystem, noting that as a rapidly growing economy, with the ICT sector contributing 18.44% to Nigeria’s GDP in Q2 2022, and e-commerce spending projected to grow to $75 billion by 2025 (Statista), “our primary goal is to enhance Nigeria’s participation in the global technology trade over the next 4 years.”
