Commission announces members of Sustainable Finance Platform

On 21 January, the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services, and Capital Markets Union published the list of members for the third mandate of the Platform on Sustainable Finance, which will run from February 2026 until the end of 2027. During this period, the Platform will advise the Commission on the EU taxonomy and the EU sustainable finance framework at large.

Following a call for applications launched in July 2025, the Commission has appointed 28 members and 16 observers from the private and public sectors. The selection was based on applicants’ environmental and sustainable finance expertise, as well as their professional experience and technical knowledge relevant to the taxonomy‑covered sectors. The Commission also ensured a balanced representation of stakeholders, including from industry, civil society, academia, as well as people who are experts in their own personal capacity, while maintaining a geographical and gender balance.

The new Platform mandate begins against the backdrop of significant progress in the development of technical screening criteria under the EU taxonomy. However, while markets have been applying the taxonomy and other sustainable finance tools, they have also been reporting some implementation challenges. As a result, the Commission is currently reviewing the taxonomy criteria based on the advice provided by the Platform under the previous mandate. This new Platform will be consulted on the Commission’s draft changes in the coming months.

The Platform will also advise the Commission on the development of criteria for additional economic activities. This is in response to increasing requests from different sectors to be included in the EU taxonomy. It is also in line with the Commission’s priorities across a number of different policy areas. Moreover, the Platform will continue working on improving the usability of the taxonomy and the EU sustainable finance framework at large, in line with the EU’s simplification agenda, as well as helping to mobilise capital for sustainable investments.
