Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan has called his team’s campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 ‘pretty weird’. Ireland’s campaign in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will end on Sunday (June 16) after their final group game against Pakistan in Florida. Ireland were drawn in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, USA and Canada. While India and Pakistan were the favorites to qualify for the Super 8s from the group, many were expecting Ireland to give the heavyweights a run for their money. However, the tournament has not really unfolded on the expected lines so far.…

“I will have that settled prior to taking the White House as president-elect,” said Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in the U.S. election. Ukraine’s Western allies have been working to secure long-term assistance for Kyiv amid fears that Trump’s potential reelection could curtail U.S. support. The Biden administration last week extended long-term security guarantees to Ukraine. That followed congressional approval in April of more than $60 billion in aid to Ukraine. And NATO countries last week moved forward with a plan for the alliance to take over from the U.S. in coordinating military aid to Ukraine, a shift widely perceived as an effort…

Black Americans’ suspicions about politics and the treatment of Black politicians have their roots in well-known events involving Black political leaders. Declassified memos show how Martin Luther King Jr. was viewed by the FBI as an “effective” and “dangerous” leader who should be “neutralized.” And a letter attributed to a former New York City police officer suggests there were federal and local conspiracies to discredit Malcolm X and his organization. This history of surveillance of Black leaders provides context for how Black Americans mistrust U.S. politics today. Many Black Americans believe the U.S. political system was designed to hold them…

Quantum computing is like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates: You never know what you’re gonna get. Quantum phenomena – the behavior of matter and energy at the atomic and subatomic levels – are not definite, one thing or another. They are opaque clouds of possibility or, more precisely, probabilities. When someone observes a quantum system, it loses its quantum-ness and “collapses” into a definite state. Quantum phenomena are mysterious and often counterintuitive. This makes quantum computing difficult to understand. People naturally reach for the familiar to attempt to explain the unfamiliar, and for quantum computing this usually means using traditional…

Brussels, 14 June – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) today launched two new reports on Belgium’s remittances landscape and the impact of high transaction costs on remittance flows and development outcomes for 21 countries. In Belgium, where one third of the population has a migrant background, over USD 7 billion (EUR 6.5 billion) in remittances were sent in 2023, but the costs of sending are high.   The findings were presented at IOM’s first-ever National Remittance Summit in Brussels, ahead of the International Day of Family Remittances (16 June).   “Migrants often struggle with high transaction costs when they…
