The organiser of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong
Marathon has confirmed that the popular event, which attracts
runners from around the world, will next take place on Sunday, 21 January 2024.
The event will also act as host to the 19th Asian Marathon Championships,
which will see the best runners
from some 45 affiliated regions and countries compete
with local runners.
It will be the first time since the pandemic that
the bi-annual Asian Marathon Championships are taking place and
the fifth time that the vibrant city of Hong Kong has been selected
as the host.
The 25th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, held in
February 2023, attracted approximately 35,000 runners at the
start-line, achieving a record high attendance rate in the event’s
history and provided the city with a positive energy boost.
“We are extremely honoured to have been selected to once again
host the Asian Marathon Championships after a period of 8 years,”
said Mr. Kwan Kee, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of
Athletics Affiliates. “The race set for January will provide ample
time for attracting more international athletes to participate. We
hope the cool weather will elevate runner’s performance and flavour better results. This race will undoubtedly be even more
competitive and exciting. As a Gold Label Road Race recognised by
the World Athletics Federation (WA), as well as an ‘M’ Mark mega international sports event, Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
has remained extremely popular amongst both overseas and local
runners. The inclusion of the Asian Marathon Championships not
only adds international flavor, but also enhances Hong Kong as a
center for mega international events.”
The
Official Apparel Sponsor, adidas, will design and
provide runners’ tees and event marshals’ outerwear.
